As we close out the year-long commemoration of our 50th anniversary – on April 10th, officially – we’re taking a few moments to reflect on all the ways we were able to celebrate with the community and with our bank family over the last year, honoring our history and our future in Lexington.
We couldn’t begin with anything but our monthly Random Acts of Kindness, as a cornerstone of our culture and mission. If you’re not familiar with this program, in short, an employee is selected each month and given $100 to contribute to the community however they choose. Last year, in honor of the 50th anniversary, we doubled the monthly amount from $100 to $200.
Over the last 12 months, that program supported individuals, like buying a struggling mom new clothing for her children, providing meals to a family caring for a loved one who is ill, and gifting a hard-working delivery driver. Random Acts of Kindness also helped local non-profit organizations, who support our local community. One employee even purchased gifts from local small businesses at a holiday market, so those business owners could give away one of their items to other patrons of the market, spreading kindness and extra holiday cheer all around. Another employee gave their $200 as extra tips to the staff at a local restaurant, where they employ local high school students with special needs. All recipients expressed surprise and gratitude, and were touched and eager to “Pay it Forward” when they are able. We are proud to have established such a wonderful program that makes big and small differences in the lives of those who reside in our area.
In addition to the increased contribution to the Random Act of Kindness program, we also hosted a free, public 50th Anniversary celebration at our Southland location on May 26th. 98.1 “The Bull” joined us for a live remote radio show, and we gave away Alan Jackson concert tickets, enjoyed delicious bites by Tacos La Doña, played games, and more! Hosting more than 200 employees, clients and members of our board and the community was such a memorable way to commemorate this milestone.
We certainly had a banner year in the community, and behind the scenes, we also made some updates within the bank as well! We proudly introduced our tagline, “The Best Bank in Town,” a title given to us by those who know us best—our customers! We also created a 50th Anniversary video, telling the story of our founding, which you can watch here. And finally, our bank’s history has been updated on our website, so you can learn more about our corporate history, the family that started the bank, and more.
We’re so proud to have been a part of both the challenges and growth of Fayette County over the last 50 years, and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead. Thank you for celebrating with us, and cheers to 50 more years serving Lexington!
